  Yoga and Health, Therapeutic Yoga.

Yoga when used as a health therapy first aims to realign the body so that as near natural functioning as possible is regained, then a carefully selected sequence of asana's will start to rejuvenate the body and begin tackling the causes of the ailment.

It is important to remember that yoga may not fully cure an ailment especially if it is serious or congenital, but yoga can alleviate some of the suffering and helps to raise ones pain threshold, progress will be slow and will require patience and dedication.

Yoga will calm and soothe the brain and nerves and can boost moral and self-confidence. The student will gain a better understanding of their own body and this understanding may offer complete relief from symptoms in some conditions.

Health Declaration

It is extremely important to tell your teacher if you have any of the following conditions when you start yoga and if these conditions arise at any time:

High Blood pressure, Cancer, Diabetes, Detached retina, Heart disease, Epilepsy, Meniere’s Disease, AIDS/ME/MS, New students who are pregnant, Regular student who becomes pregnant, Post operative conditions, Menstruation.

Yoga One-to-One, Therapeutic Sessions (including Pregnancy)

You can now book One-to-One yoga sessions if you wish to work on a specific health related issue.
The knowledge that yoga can support health is well known and its often not possible to deal with specific problems in a regular class.

Janette is now offering short courses to those who want individual help with conditions such as - stress, headaches, recovery from illness/injury, headaches, insomnia and fatigue.
Other conditions that receive some relief from symptoms with yoga include hormonal conditions, joint aches, women's health, immune system, digestive system and circulatory system.

Those who are pregnant can also request one-to-one sessions alone or set up a small class with friends.

These courses are designed to help a student set up a home practice or create strategies for working on their own health issue in a regular Iyengar yoga class.

After the course review sessions would be useful to support further progress.

Please get in touch with Janette via the 'contact' page on this web site for more information.
